Agartala/Aizawl: Two northeastern states — the Left-ruled Tripura and Congress-governed Mizoram — would pass their State Goods and Services Tax (GST) Bills this month, it was announced on Friday.

“A three-day session of the Tripura Assembly would begin from May 23 to pass the State Goods and Services Tax Bill,” Deputy Speaker Pabitra Kar told IANS in Agartala.
“The Business Advisory Committee headed by Speaker Ramendra Chandra Debnath in a meeting here on Friday decided the number of days and other business of the upcoming session,” he added.
Tripura Finance Minister Bhanulal Saha said that passing of the State GST Bill was mandatory for rollout of the new indirect tax regime.
The Tripura government held a meeting on GST with all legislators on May 12 and a workshop for the media would be held in Agartala on May 20.
Mizoram Finance Minister Lalsawta said in Aizawl that efforts were being made to pass the State GST Bill in the state assembly this month.
“The draft State GST bill would be approved by the state cabinet in a day or two and then it would be tabled in the assembly,” he added.
On April 6, Parliament passed four legislations, paving the way for the rollout of the GST from July. Most of the states in the country have already passed the state GST bills. (IANS)
