Agartala: Kanchanpur sub-divisional administration began clicking photographs from Saturday for AADHAR enrollments of Bru displaced sheltered in transit camps of North Tripura for past 20 years.
In the midst of uncertainty of repatriation of 37,000 odd Bru inmates to their homeland in Western Mizoram, Tripura government in consultation with the central government has decided to issue AADHAR cards to Brus, as a part of the move to legitimize their identity proof living in transit camps.
Officials of Kanchanpur said on Sunday that in first phase AADHAR cards would be given to students.
However, Mizoram Bru Displaced Peoples Forum (MBDPF) secretary Bruno Msha said the decision would hopefully prove beneficial for the camp residents.
He added that the Bru coordination body had earlier sought to be granted AADHAR cards a couple of times. The issue of repatriation of Bru inmates has not yet been finalised because of some administrative difficulties on the part of Mizoram government.” (UNI)
