SHILLONG: The Chief Executive Officer of National Institute of Information Technology (NIIT), Rahul Keshav Patwardhan said that there is a need to incorporate up-to-date Information Technology (IT) in the academia to face the ever changing world of IT.
Speaking to media persons here on Saturday, Patwardhan said, “Competition for jobs is intense. What should be the academic response on this issue? There should be an introduction of future skills in academia.”
Highlighting the prospects of IT in various professions, he said that the current curriculum should be able to deliver services which will equip students with skills for the present and future.
“It should prepare people for changing work. There is a need for re-skilling and preparing for the skills of the future,” he said.
With the target to revamp curriculum in IT by bringing in a digital curriculum, Patwardhan spoke of partnership with schools and colleges, as he observed that in a changing world, technology changes continuously.
According to Patwardhan, while the Gross Democratic Product (GDP) of the country is increasing the growth of jobs is unable to keep pace with it.
He added that everybody needs to be IT trained as every job will require ‘coding’.
He added that people from Northeast, with their English language skills, will have an edge over others in the country if they are properly trained in IT.
