State won medals at the 41st National Arm Wrestling C’ship

SHILLONG:  The state’s arm wrestlers won four gold, two silver and five bronze medals during the 41st National Arm wrestling Championship in New Delhi from May 19 to 21. Addressing a press conference on Saturday, acting president of Meghalaya Arm Wrestlers Association (MAWA), P Lyngdoh Nongrang said, “The players do not get any assistance from the government despite them bringing laurels to the state.” He added that they seek financial assistance from MLAs and public support. Nongrang stated that Meghalaya will host the 43rd National Arm wrestling Championship in 2019 and has urged the state government to provide the necessary financial assistance. The gold medalists are Angelis Kharumnuid in the 50 kg category, Ladapbiang Malieh in the 60 kg category in the girl’s section, Badalin Kharbangar in the women’s 55 kg category and Huber Paliar in the 60 kg category of the physically challenged section. Arms wrestlers who won silver medals were Margaret Pathaw in the 60 kg women’s section and Daniel Nongkhlaw in the men’s 55 kg category. Bronze medal winners are Sperean Nongrang in the women’s 60 kg category, Mihsngewbha Rymbai in the women’s 70 kg category, Jackson Lyngdoh in the men’s 60 kg category, Allan S Marbaniang in the men’s 80 kg category and Maimai Laloo in the men’s 75 kg men’s category.
