Woman, her two kids burnt alive in Tripura
Agartala: In a tragic incident in Tripura, a woman and her two minor children were burnt to death when their thatched home went up in flames following an LPG cylinder blast, police said here on Monday. The incident took place on Sunday night at Hrishyamukh, in south Tripura, about 110 kms from here. Police said Jhunu Debnath, a small trader, had illegally stored petrol in his home. While he was trying to fill some fuel in a container for sale, the inflammable liquid caught fire from a lamp near by, a police official said. Debnath’s home was engulfed in flames as a cooking gas cylinder exploded in the fire. “Jhunu Debnath somehow managed to flee the blaze, but his wife and their two minor children were burnt to death,” a police official said. Govt employees allowed to leave office early during Ramzan
Guwahati: Assam government employees practising Islam have been allowed to leave the office at 4:30 pm, half an hour earlier than the scheduled time, during the ongoing Ramzan month. The move is on the condition that they will have to report at the office half an hour earlier at 9:30 am, an official release said here today. Employees working at the state secretariat may also avail this facility subject to the disposal of Assembly related works, if any. (PTI)
Mizoram government issues warning ahead of cyclone
Aizawl: Mizoram government on Monday issued a warning that cyclone ‘Mora’ accompanied by thunderstorm and very heavy rainfall might lash the state on May 30 and 31. The Mizoram Disaster Management Authority and the Disaster Management and Rehabilitation department received a warning that the cyclone called ‘Mora’ will hit several states in the country and was most likely to lash Mizoram, Nagaland, Manipur and Tripura on Tuesday and Wednesday, an official statement said. The statement advised the people to take precaution and other preventive measures as the cyclone could trigger massive landslides and flash floods in the state. (PTI)
Bodies of two students arrive in Mizoram
Aizawl: The bodies of two students found dead near Panikhaiti Rail gate in Guwahati on Sunday, arrived in Aizawl on Monday afternoon. Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP), the apex Mizo student body, said the bodies would be taken to south Mizoram’s Lunglei town for funeral scheduled to be held on Tuesday at 10 am. R Lalmalsawma, a student of Physiotherapy and C. Lalhmangaihsanga, a student of Dialysis course at the Downtown University, Assam, were reportedly found dead yesterday morning and their bodies were being brought to Mizoram. Police suspect homicide and investigation was launched into the gory incidence. Tension gripped the state though no reports of untoward incidence have been received from any parts of the state, police said. (PTI)
Heatwave claims life in Tripura
Agartala: A person died of sunstroke on Sunday at Ghilatali Bazar under Kalyanpur PS in Teliamura in West Tripura.This is the first case of heat casualty in the state this year. Police said Dilip Bhowmik (47), the owner of a grocer shop, suddenly felt dizzy and fell on the ground in his shop at Ghilatali Bazar. Local people immediately took him to Teliamura Hospital where he was announced dead. Doctors said Bhowmik died of sunstroke following heatwave and high humidity in the state for the past two weeks. However, meteorological forecast said situation will become normal within a day or two as rain is expected anytime. (UNI)
