Cleaning drive to mark 150 years of Tura town

SHILLONG: As part of the celebration of 150 years of the Tura town and also for observation of World Environment Day, various events have been scheduled in order to make the event more meaningful. On June 1, there will be a cleaning drive at Super Market and Bazar area which is being organised by the Chief Executive Officer, Tura Municipal Board. Cleaning and rejuvenation of water bodies of the town which is being started with the Gandrak Stream will be held on June 3. The District Administration in collaboration with Swachh Bharat Mission under Tura Municipal Board, Mission Green under IBDLP, Tura Art and Culture Society (TACS) and Social Service Wing of the Oneness University is organising this programme. Simultaneously, there will also be a cleaning drive at Tura Civil Hospital and its adjoining areas organised by the Superintendent of Tura Civil Hospital. Again, on June 5, there will be a cleaning drive at Kabul Bazar, Takurbari area, Nakam Bazar and Dobasipara locality organised by Tura Traders Union and concerned area development committee members from 7 am. There will also be an official function at SMELC, Dakopgre Tura from 11 am on the same day including planting of trees at various locations in and around the town. All the residents of Tura town and especially those residing near the Gandrak Falls, Chandmari, Lower Mission Compound, Ringrey, Bazar areas, Kabul Bazar, Nakam Bazar, Dobasipara and near Tura Civil Hospital areas have been asked to participate in these cleaning drive.
