HSLC examination pass percentage dips in Assam

Guwahati: There is significant dip in pass percentage in Assam High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) examination 2017 results declared by the Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA) on Wednesday.  Total 47.49 per cent students passed this year’s examination compared to 62.79 per cent in the year 2016.  The SEBA this year adopted a new system of giving grace marks replacing the ‘very lenient’ system that was in practice earlier. The new system of grace marks has been introduced as per recommendation made by a panel comprising three vice-chancellors of three universities in Assam. Of the 3,80,733 students who appeared for the examination this year , 54,955 students passed with first division, 80,197 students passed with second division, and 43,522 with third division. Almost 1, 92,874 students failed the exam.The pass percentage in the HSLC Examination in earlier years were: 62.20 % in 2015, 61.42 % in 2014, 70.71 % in 2013, 69.63 % in 2012, 70.38 % in 2011 and 63. 22% in 2010.
Three Assam youths arrested in Pathankot
Chandigarh: Punjab Police has arrested three young men in Pathankot district on the basis of suspicion, police said on Wednesday. All three belong to Assam, sources said.The arrests were being linked to the Monday recovery of an abandoned bag containing three Army uniforms. The bag was left on Defence Road near Pathankot late on Sunday night. A massive search operation was launched in the district following the seizure.Punjab Police, army and other security agencies carried searches in the area, especially near the Indian Air Force base as well as the army’s Mamoon Cantonment in Pathankot.A Jammu flour mill’s name was printed on the bag, police officials said. Three persons arrested, 2780 rounds of ammunition seized
Imphal: Three persons were arrested after 2780 rounds of ammunition of AK rifle were seized from their possession in Churachandpur district, police said on Wednesday. The three persons – Khaigninlal Haokip, Jangkhokhonao and Timkangphai – were travelling in a car on Tuesday. During checking of vehicles at Kangvi area in Churachandpur district, a joint team of Manipur Police and Assam Rifles found the ammunition and arrested them. A case has been registered against them after the ammunition were seized from their possession, the police added. (PTI)
