SHILLONG: BJP national spokesperson and in charge of Meghalaya Nalin Kohli is amused at Chief Minister Mukul Sangma “outsourcing” the debate challenge on development to Assam MP Gaurav Gogoi.
In a statement to the media on Friday, Kohli said his charge against Sangma is that he believes in ‘apna vikas aur apne parivar ka vikas’ unlike Narendra’s Modi’s ‘sabka saath sabka vikas’.
“It is amazing that Dr Mukul Sangma has outsourced the debate challenge to Gaurav Gogoi who is also guilty of the same charge,” Kohli said.
According to Kohli, it seems all political families of the Congress are one happy club protecting their own interests while their common man in Meghalaya suffers corruption, lack of governance and development.
“On my recent visit to Meghalaya, while highlighting the complete failure of the Congress government of Dr Mukul Sangma in providing a corruption-free administration and the apparent total lack of developmental activities in the State, I challenged him to engage in a debate with me on his tenure and unfulfilled promises,” Kohli reminded.
The BJP leader said it was with much amusement that he came to know in response to the challenge, the Assam MP and Congress Spokesperson has dared him to engage in the challenge with him.
“It appears that Dr Mukul Sangma has no courage to directly debate with me about his tenure and unfulfilled promises. What is even more amusing is that he has asked Gaurav Gogoi to debate on his behalf,” Kohli said.
According to the BJP leader, this raises a serious question. “Do the people of Meghalaya not deserve a response directly from their chief minister instead of a Member of Parliament from Assam? Unless Mr Gaurav Gogoi is the remote control running the Mukul Sangma government,” Kohli said.
