Ri Bhoi under security blanket

SHILLONG: The entire Ri Bhoi district is under security cover following cases of arson reported from different places since last week.
Ri Bhoi superintendent of police R.P Singh said on Saturday one more company of CRPF has been brought into the district and altogether two companies have been deployed in the district, besides local police force.
Violence erupted in the district after a group of KSU activists allegedly attacked the railway construction site in Byrnihat last week.
Recently, the office of the Youth Congress was gutted in Nongpoh and the Meg Mini Tea Factory of the Horticulture Department at Lumnongrim Dewlieh in Umsning was torched on Thursday night causing huge losses.
The district will complete 25 years of its existence on Sunday. Singh said police deployment has been made along the national highways. “Also, there are moving nakas in the district which are keeping a tab on anti-social elements,” he added.
Another attack on Satruday
Meanwhile, on Saturday morning, around 2.20 am, miscreants hurled a petrol bomb at Forest Check Gate, 9th Mile, in Ri Bhoi. No damage was reported.
