SHILLONG: A typing mistake put president of Forever Young Club Michael Syiem in a spot and prompted him to apologise on social media.
Syiem had written a letter to the District Horticulture Officer, East Khasi Hills, seeking financial support for the 15th edition of Shillong Wine Festival.
In the letter, he had stated that “the festival attracts many ‘terrorists’ both domestic and foreign”, while the exact word should have been ‘tourist’.
Later, when the letter was leaked on social media, Syiem wrote, “Sorry for the typing mistake in Forever Young’s application. The word should have been ‘tourist’ not ‘terrorist’. But I thank all who posted the mistake, including the source for free publicity for the upcoming Shillong Wine Festival.”
When contacted, Syiem said instead of taking it to social media the department should have called him to rectify the mistake. “It is sad and a breach of faith,” he added.
In a recent goof by Times Now, the channel had to apologise for running a headline that mistakenly said, “Shah (Amit Shah) heads to thundery Pakistan”, instead of ‘Kerala’. It was reporting on the senior BJP leader’s visit to Kochi.
