SHILLONG: The Deep Jyoti Socio Environmental Society of Bishnupur, Shillong has celebrated World Environment Day by planting various saplings on many selected sites and also going for poster campaigning on environment. The society held a drawing and essay competition, last month, for which the prizes will be given away on June 10 at 5 pm at the Deva Kumar Hall Bishnupur.
Day-long programme at Shillong Commerce College
SHILLONG: To commemorate World Environment Day, Shillong Commerce College conducted various programmes on Monday. The day-long programme commenced at 7 am with a cleaning drive of the College Campus and adjoining areas. Thereafter awareness programme on importance and need for protecting the environment was held at 10 am at the College Hall. The programme started with a Quiz Competition followed by a speech from principal J.B.Massar. A short documentary film on environment was also screened to create awareness on students on the importance of nature. The NSS, NCC and Social work Committee of the College undertook tree plantation at GSWSS Damsite Mawphlang Division No-II. The tree plantation was organised in collaboration with PHE, GSWS, Division-II Staff welfare Society, Mawphlang.
Police training centre plants sapling
SHILLONG: NEPA – a premier training institute in the country for police- take pride in maintaining eco-friendly campus and tree plantation is a continuous process in NEPA. In order to protect and preserve flora and fauna and to nurture the trees in NEPA Campus, a Shramdan (cleaning drive) is being organised daily. Various kinds of saplings numbering 3000 were planted in the Campus. The tree plantation drive was conducted under the guidance N K Gurung, Additional Director NEPA, keeping in view the alarming issue of global warming and to counter the land-slides, deforestation, etc. and to maintain an eco-friendly campus for police trainee officers.
Herbal traditional Med school in WKH
NONGSTOIN: Sohparu village in collaboration with Nongstoin Social Service Society started herbal traditional school to mark the eve of World Environment Day on Monday. The institute was officially launched in the present of the villagers, representative from NSSS, DDM NABARD, Lead District Manager SBI and the prominent herbal medicine practitioner, Mingstar Kharjahrin. The launching programme was chaired by the Sordar of Sohparu village, G. Marwein. He briefed the participants on the purpose of the meeting.
World Environment Day observes in JH
JOWAI: The World Environment Day was observed in different place in Jaintia Hills including, Jowai, Khliehriat and even by village Dorbars, schools and colleges. In West Jaintia Hills, the Day was celebrated at District Library Auditorium, Jowai, organised by the District Basin Development Unit. While Chitang Memorial L.P School, in Khiehtyrshi organised by the Office of the District Soil & Water Conservation. Speaking as the chief guest, Deputy Chief Minister, RC Laloo said that the purpose of the celebration is not only to plant trees but to make a resolution to conserve our mother Earth by our small deeds and action keeping our environment clean and green. Various activities like awareness programmes, awareness march, workshops, tree plantations were conducted to make the public aware of their responsibilities to preserve and keep the environment green. The District Basin Development unit on Monday began the celebration with an awareness march participated by the students from various schools.The programme was attended by R.Muthu, Superintended of Police, WJH, D.M Wallang, Additional Deputy Commissioner & Vice-Chairperson Basin Development Unit, S.C Laloo, Additional Deputy Commissioner, EACs, government officials, prominent citizens of Jowai, students and teachers.
Ri Bhoi World Environment Day
The William Carey University had observed World Environment Day on Monday in Nongthymmai, Umsning, Ri Bhoi District. Students planted trees in the Botanical Garden of the campus, gave speeches on selected topics and held a quiz competition on environmental topics and issues.
