SHILLONG: A school in West Khasi Hills district has appointed a teacher in the upper primary section whose qualification is till matriculation.
The reply to an RTI filed by the Hynñiewtrep Achik National Movement, South West Khasi Hills says the managing committee of Mawbidong Presbyterian School has appointed Passing K Syiemiong, a matriculate, in the upper primary section. Syiemiong is also a church elder. Talking to media persons here on Monday, general secretary of the organisation, O.M Shylla said though he opposed the appointment, the managing committee did not pay heed to his concerns.
“Such appointment is in violation of the rules laid down for teachers’ appointment, especially with regards to RTE Act and NCTE norms,” said Shylla.
The NGO leader also alleged that most of the teachers appointed in the school established by the Presbyterian Church, are relatives of pastors, church elders and members of the school managing committee. The school is a government-aided. The lower primary is under the deficit system and the upper primary is under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan.
