Darjeeling SP removed; ICs of Kalimpong, Kurseong transferred

Darjeeling: After removal of Darjeeling’s Superintendent of Police Amit P Javalgi, the Circle Inspector of Kalimpong and Kurseong police stations were also transferred with immediate effect, a fall out of Thursday’s violence in Darjeeling town where policemen were beaten by the GJM supporters.
Deputy Commissioner (Central), Kolkata Police, Akhilesh Chaturvedi, was made new SP of Darjeeling.
IC Bhanu Rai of Kalimpong police station was transferred to Murshidabad, IC Kurseong Dipankar Som was made Inspector of Siliguri, Inspector Parijat Sarkar of Siliguri will take charge of Kurseong PS with immediate effect.
IC Tirtha Sarathi Nath of Dinhata PS will take over Kalimpong PS according to an order of the IGP Law and Order.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has already set up a 3-IPS panel entrusted them – Javed Shamim, Siddhanath Gupta and Ajay Nanda – to oversee the law and order situation of the Hills immediately after Thursday’s bloody violence in which some 60 to 70 police personnel, including DIG Rajesh Yadav, were injured when the GJM supporters attacked them.
The attacks followed immediately after the Chief Minister completed her first Cabinet meeting in the hills outside Kolkata.
Meanwhile, the Bhanu Bhawan where the GTA office has been sealed for next two months by an order of district magistrate Joyoshi Dasgupta. It was alleged that Bhanu Bhawan was used in the attacks of policemen.
Meanwhile, GJM today called for an indefinite shut in all the government and semi-government offices in Darjeeling Hills from Monday to protest imposition of Bengali language in schools from primary to Class X. (UNI)
