Coimbatore, Jun 12 (UNI) A five month old elephant calf which fell into the open well when a herd came for fodder and water was saved by the forest officials in the outskirts of Perianaikkan Palayam, here yesterday.
Forest official sources said they received a call from public stating that a herd of nine elephants strayed into the farm land in search of fodder and water. The forest officials rushed to the spot and burst crackers to send back the herd to the forest. In the process, a five month old male elephant in the herd fell into the open well.
Later they sent the herd to the forest and saved the calf with the help of local people.
The calf was also sent to the forest and had joined with its mother elephant, the sources added. UNI
