Guwahati: Ninety-nine students have cracked the JEE Advanced this year under the OIL Super 30, which
is one of the flagship corporate social responsibility (CSR) projects of public sector Oil India Limited (OIL).
Out of the total 147 students in the 2016 batch, 99 clear IIT-Advanced entrance examination in the country, informed the OIL authority.
The OIL Super 30 project is wholly supported by Oil India Limited and is implemented by Centre for Social Responsibility and Leadership (CSRL), New Delhi, across five centres at Guwahati, Jorhat and Dibrugarh in Assam, Jodhpur in Rajasthan and Itanagar in Arunachal Pradesh.
Today, the project has become a household name for the families, students and educationists, in the North Eastern region, as one of the most successful CSR initiatives of the OIL.
The centre-wise results of the OIL Super 30 Project this year who have cleared JEE Advanced are: Jodhpur 29, Jorhat 22, Guwahati 17, Dibrugarh 17 and Itanagar 14.
OIL Super 30 was instituted in 2010 with its first centre at Guwahati, followed by Dibrugarh and Jorhat. Under the project, each year, 150 students (with 30 students in each centre) from economically disadvantaged families are provided 11 months free residential coaching for IIT-JEE and other engineering entrance examinations.
Through the project, students have attained admissions in various prestigious engineering institutes like IIT, ISRO, NIT, State engineering colleges etc., and in leading medical institutes, since 2011.
Going by the success and mass popularity of the project, OIL has opened its sixth centre at Nagaon, Assam, in 2017. OIL has supported 510 students through the project till last year out of which 476 students have taken admission in various engineering colleges giving 93% success to the project.
Ninety-seven students have taken admission in various IITs and ISRO & Top NITs, 126 students are presently studying in NITs & other premier institutes & 253 students are studying in various State engineering colleges and universities. The OIL has spent close to 11.40 Crores on this project till date at an average of Rs 1.5 lakh per student.
