‘Molester not a KSU member’
SHILLONG: The Khasi Students’ Union North Khasi Hills District has said that the alleged molester, War Lamin is not a member of the organization. In a statement issued here on Wednesday, vice-president of the KSU’s, North Khasi Hills District, Vincent Makri condemned the molestation incident and said that Lamin has got nothing to do with the Union.

Youth parliament programme
SHILLONG: Nehru Yuva Kendra, Shillong organised a Neighbourhood Youth Parliament Programme in collaboration with the Association for Community Development, Sohra region at Mawkma village on June 3. The programme started with yoga session by the secretary of Community Development to mark the celebration of the International Day of Yoga, which is usually celebrated on June 21.

Teachers’ body thanks govt
SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Upper Primary School Teachers Association (MUPSTA) expressed gratitude to the government for its assurance to enhance) 100 per cent of the teachers’ salary teaching in UP and LP schools. The president of MUPSTA, who is also the general secretary of Joint Action Committee of All Teacher Association of Meghalaya (JACATAM), K. Shadap met the Director of School Education & Literacy Directorate, who assured them that the 100 per cent hike will be released to the District School Education Officer in the coming week. The organisation has urged the teachers to be patient.

Intl Day Against Child Labour
SHILLONG: International Day Against Child Labour under the theme ‘In conflicts and disasters-Protect children from child labour’ was observed at New Nongstoin on Wednesday. A one-day awareness programme was organised by the office of District Labour Office, West Khasi Hills at market place, which also was attended by people from its adjoining areas. M. J. Kharbudon, Labour Inspector, spoke on the various issues related to child labour and its effects on the well-being of the child.

Training in child protection
NONGSTOIN: The Office of the Deputy Commissioner, West Khasi Hills District, Nongstoin, informed that the Meghalaya Administrative Training Institute (MATI), Shillong will be conducting two-day training on Child Protection and Child Rights. The training will be held from June 15 to 16, at Trysem Hall, DC’s office from 10 am for all the district heads, offices, MCS/MPS officers, other police officers, government pleaders and officials stationed in Nongstoin. 

Aadhaar enrolment
NONGSTOIN: After the enrolment by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) for issuing of unique biometric enabled number – Aadhaar card for all the government servants and department heads in West Khasi Hills, the DC Arunkumar Kembhavi on Wednesday announced that the enrolment for the people of the district will commence on June 19 at their respective Common Service Centres, where people can call up.
