RESUBELPARA: A 22-year-old woman from North Garo Hills has been arrested for her alleged links with GNLA and attacking her maternal uncle.
North Garo Hills police said Supriya D. Momin, who is from Goalpara in Assam, joined Don Bosco College Tura after passing her Class XII board examinations from Mendipathar College. Her father, Goldseneck Rangsa Marak, is a councillor from Meshalkawa Panchayat under Paikan Development Block in Assam.
Supriya had an affair with a man called Marcus M. Sangma, a GNLA cadre who died in an encounter with Meghalaya Police in 2014. She continued to have links with other GNLA survivors.
Then she got into a relationship with a married man, Tengsrang A. Sangma (A’chura WeGaro A’gitok II), since 2015.
Tengsrang stole her SIM card, Facebook password and started blackmailing her. Tengsrang would use Supriya’s Facebook account to threaten civil society leaders of Tura. She defamed prominent professors in Tura. Finally, a fake account updated a false story that “A pastor raped a girl in NGH”.
The victims filed an FIR against her. When NGH Police raided her house she was not there. Later, she surrendered in Resubelpara police station. Tengsrang was also arrested by a joint team of West and North Garo Hills police.
“Even today I have contact with GNLA Chairman Champion R Sangma, who is in jail, over telephone,” confessed Supriya during interrogation.
