CM orders probe into safety of industrial units

SHILLONG: Chief Minister Mukul Sangma while condoling the loss of lives in separate landslides that occurred on Saturday at Veneer Product Private Limited MIDC Area Umiam, Ri Bhoi and Lumkyntong village under Sohra Civil Sub Division, has ordered a probe into the safety aspect of the industrial units. 

In a statement issued here on Saturday, the chief minister also conveyed his condolences to the members of the bereaved families.

Commenting on the safety auditing of industrial units to ensure that they conform to the parameters and be resilient to withstand any instances of disaster, the chief minister said that the State Government has already notified the State Disaster Management Authority to ensure risk reduction during disasters and to have an efficient disaster response system in place.
