TURA: Tura Lok Sabha MP Conrad K. Sangma has written to Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley urging him to put on hold the shifting of the northeastern regional director’s office of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs from Shillong to Guwahati.
In a letter to Jaitley last Saturday, Conrad said, “It would not be economical to shift the office of RD (NER) ROC (Registrar of Companies) and official liquidator and the move would affect the continuity and further development, particularly the impending Assembly election in Meghalaya.”
He added that the local staff and other employees of the regional office are “in a state of disarray” post the decision of the Corporate Affairs Ministry.
There are seven regional directors in the country in charge of their respective regions with each region comprising a number of states and union territories. They supervise the working of the offices of registrars of companies and official liquidators in the respective regions.
They also maintain liaison with respective state governments and the Centre in matters of administration of the Companies Act and the Limited Liability Partnership Act. Some powers of the central government under the Act have been delegated to the regional directors. They have also been declared as heads of department.
There is also an inspection unit attached to the office of every regional director for monitoring books of accounts of companies under Section 209A of the Companies Act.
The current regional director for the northeastern region is Ramesh Chand Meena with his head office located in Shillong.
Post office passport seva kendra
External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj has informed Sangma that the Centre has decided to open a post office passport seva kendra in Tura in the second phase of the scheme.
Following the successful functioning of these units and the positive response received from the people, MEA and Department of Posts have now decided to open another 149 seva kendras, including one each in Tura and Baghmara.
The Tura MP thanked Swaraj for the move.
