Eve of Ambubachi Mela festival

Devotees offers prayer infront of MAA Kamakhaya Temple on the eve of Ambubachi Mela ( festival ). The festival begins on 22 June– a day after the summer solstice – and goes on till 26 June. The festival is a celebration of the Shakti culture, which worships the mother goddess Kamakhya. (UB photos)

The Shillong Times first appeared as a tabloid weekly on 10th August 1945 under the editorship of Late Sudhindra Bhusan Chaudhuri. In 1958 it was converted to a Daily. Owing to financial constraints, within six months it reverted back to a weekly.
