SHILLONG: Members of various pressure groups on Wednesday preferred humour to violence as their weapon against the government, especially the chief minister, in their battle against the railway project in the State.
The protesters carried placards with caricatures of Mukul Sangma accompanied by one-liners about his “romantic” dreams of introducing railway connecting Shillong with Sohra.
One placard showed Sangma sitting on the engine of a train with a bespectacled woman travelling to Sohra. The placard taunted the chief minister’s remark that the railway ride from Shillong to Sohra would be the most sought after and give young couples the opportunity to have a “romantic honeymoon ride”.
One poster had ‘Guide Us Realistic Not Romantic’ written on it.
Another poster showed the chief minister dressed to the nines and heart signs all around him. It said ‘I… Heart Romance’ below the picture.
