SHILLONG: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) denounced the deputy commissioner and the superintendent of police of Ri Bhoi for allegedly violating human rights.
In a press statement, Donald Thabah, KSU general secretary, said Deputy Commissioner C.P Gotmare and SP Ramesh Singh violated rights of KSU members and the public on June 27 at Shangbangla and Nongpoh where CRPF force resorted to lathi charge without reason.
“The members showed restraint but the police lathi-charge the people,” he added.
Asserting that the late-night raid has troubled people and created fear psychosis, he said even the press was restraint and that lawyers who intended to fight the case of arrested KSU leaders were warned.
Thabah said the district administration is mentally torturing the relatives of KSU members but added that the organisation will not budge.
