SHILLONG: KHADC Executive Member in charge of Forest, GM Kharpuri said on Wednesday that an inquiry committee was constituted for investigating the misappropriation of Rs 34 lakh in the Forest department.
The committee was headed by Additional Judge, District Council, SB Laitthma and the report was to be submitted within two months.
Replying to a supplementary question by HSPDP member, Teilinia Thangkhiew, Kharpuri informed that the inquiry committee was constituted on April 27.
“The report showed that there is involvement of officials,” she said, adding that legal experts were consulted and the Executive Committee (EC) discussed the need to have a magisterial enquiry and the matter is still pending in the Court of Laitthma.
Kharpuri said that officers were suspended to ensure that there is no tampering of the report.
On the other hand, in reply to a question raised by Thangkhiew on the wanton felling of trees at Tynring, Kharpuri said that logs have been seized in this regard.
