SHILLONG: District Council Affairs Minister Prestone Tynsong said on Thursday the government would examine whether administrator’s rule be imposed in KHADC.
Talking to media persons here after holding a meeting with a group of MDCs, Tynsong said a group of MDCs, including Teilinia Thangkhiew, Manstudy Nongrem and P.T Sawkmie, apprised him of the situation in the Council.
“I have asked them to give the issues in writing after which we will examine if administrator’s rule is needed to be imposed,” Tynsong said.
During the meeting, the MDCs alleged that the Chairman of the House, L.G Nongsiej, was “biased” and the House was prorogued on Thursday despite the scheduled Friday session.
Tynsong pointed out that proroguing of the House before the scheduled time is wrong, especially when demand of grant is scheduled to take place on Friday according to the calendar. “If the situation is like this, then there is no need to print the calendar.”
According to Tynsong, the style of functioning of Parliament, Assembly and even the District Council is more or less the same and the constitutional bodies are governed by rules, business and conduct of business. “We cannot just leave aside the rules,” he said and added that the chain of events at the Council on Thursday was unfair and undemocratic.
On being asked about the Congress strategy following the political turmoil in the Council, he said as per media reports, KHNAM, UDP and others said they would not work with the Congress and the party “is ready to respect the decision”.
“If they think we are untouchables, we are ready to remain untouchables as we are not hungry for power,” he said.
Meanwhile, UDP’s Thangkhiew earlier told reporters that they had the majority but they were not allowed to prove it on the floor of the House.
The aggrieved MDCs are scheduled to meet Meghalaya Governor Banwarilal Purohit in a day or two.
