SHILLONG: The Centre has approved Meghalaya’s action plan for climate change projects.
Principal Chief Conservator of Forest C.P Marak said the proposal was approved by the Ministry of Environment and Forest and Climate Change last year and it has around seven or eight missions.
The proposed outlay for identified actions is about Rs 6,298 crore and sectors covered include agriculture, sustainable habitat, forestry, sustainable water management, mining, energy. Other issues include eco-tourism and health.
Marak said the proposal would require efforts of all departments since it cut across all line departments. He also said vulnerability and risk to climate change was assessed for Meghalaya by a professor of the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, and later the national plan for climate change as well as that for the State were formulated.
The State Planning Board is the nodal department for the action plan.
