SubJunior National Aquatic C’ship: Vedika, Sanjiti set joint record

Pune, June 29 (PTI) Vedika Amin and Sanjiti Saha from Maharashtra created a joint new national record in 50 meters freestyle swimming at the 34th Sub Junior National Aquatic Championship here today. Vedika continued her splendid show breaking the 100 m breast-stroke record twice in the day. She clocked 1:20.85 in the heats and came back in the evening to smash her own record by clocking 1:18.63 to secure gold. Apeksha Fernandes won the silver clocking 1:22.76, while Aastha Bordoloi of Assam claimed bronze clocking 1:24.50. In the 50 meter freestyle, Vedika Amin and Sanjiti won a joint gold creating a new national record of 28.90 seconds. Neena Venkatesh of Karnataka won bronze with a time of 29.86. Sahil Lashkar of Bengal bettered his national record he had set in the morning while winning the 50m backstroke in 30.96 seconds. Mumbai swimmers Palak Dhami, Sanjiti Saha, Vedika Amin and Apeksha Fernandes added the 4X50 medley relay gold to Maharashtra’s kitty, establishing a new national record of 2:11.24 in the process. Maharashtra topped the medal tally table with 14 gold medals, 4 silvers and 5 bronze medals. PTI
