Itanagar, Jun 30 (PTI) The Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) today condemned the recent incident at a plush Delhi club where a woman was asked to leave the dining room for wearing a traditional Khasi outfit. “The incident clearly indicates racism against the Khasi woman. Such attacks are alienating people from the Northeast instead of taking them along,” the APCC said in a statement. “The diversity of the country cannot be dismissed by calling someone’s attire as that of a maid, especially when the country is ruled by a party that swears by the teaching of Swami Vivekananda,” the party added. The Meghalaya woman, Tailin Lyngdoh, was asked to leave the dining room of Delhi Golf Club because the club’s staffers believed her traditional outfit looked like a “maid’s uniform.” Tailin Lyngdoh, who was wearing a jainsem, traditionally worn by Khasi women, was invited with the employer, Dr Nivedita Barthakur Sondhi, to a lunch hosted by a member of The Delhi Golf Club in the heart of the capital on June 25.
