Shillong: Protests are still rife in Meghalaya and other parts of Northeast  condemning  the racial discrimination against a Khasi lady, Tailin Lyngdoh,  in Delhi Golf Club for wearing  jainsem ,the traditional dress of Khasi women.

Meghalaya Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee on Saturday took out a protest rally in the city from the state Congress office to the CTO parking arena expressing concern over the incident and demanding  unconditional apology from Delhi Golf Club authority.

“We want justice  in the matter that has hurt the sentiment of the people of the Northeast in general and Meghalaya in particular. Delhi Golf Club authority must realise that India is a country with diverse culture and people of every state have their own cultural identity. The Club must tender an unconditional apology to the Khasi lady who was discriminated against,” said Szarita Laitphlang, secretary of Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee.  She said that she had represented India wearing jainsem in many international conferences, but nowhere she faced any discrimination because of her dress.

The MLA of Chokpot LAC, Bluebell Sangma, while addressing the rally expressed solidarity with Tailin Lyngdoh in her fight against the racial discrimination she had been subjected to in Delhi Golf Club.
