Megha Health Insurance Scheme to start policy from today
Shillong: Megha Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS) will commence the policy period from Saturday and beneficiaries who have already enrolled with the scheme this year can avail the benefits of the smart card in all the hospital empanelled with MHIS. More than 1,00,000 households have already enrolled under the scheme. 

3rd Farmers training program conducted
SHILLONG: M R Morarka GDC Rural Research Foundation has successfully conducted the 3rd Farmers training & Organic Input Demonstration program in the allotted village of Bhoirymbong area in Ri-bhoi District under the Mission Organic Meghalaya. Farmers were trained on using inputs such as NSDL compost, growth/flowering management and pest management. They were also trained on making bio-fertilizer, bio-pesticides and pest management by using raw materials.

Complaint against SMC secy
TURA: The President of the Matri Mangal Girls’ SSA UP School’s managing committee in Moulakandi has alleged non cooperation by the headmaster cum secretary of the said school with other committee members. In his complaint to the SDSEO, Jt DMC, Dadenggre the SMC president also claimed that payment of teachers’ salary was being delayed although the same had been drawn on June 20.

Fraud
SHILLONG: The Managing Director, Meghalaya Industrial Development Corporation Ltd., Shillong lodged a complaint that in the year 2009/2010, one Denis Siangshai of Mookhep village in East Jaintia Hills took a loan of Rs. 1,50,00,000 from the Corporation and failed to repay the loan as per the terms and conditions of the sanction letter. Moreover, as per the letter of Meghalaya Rural Bank, it has come to light that Siangshai had tampered with some documents, in particular, the letter which was allegedly signed by the then Assistant General Manager of the Corporation. Police said that the matter is under investigation.

One-day Hindi workshop held
SHILLONG: A one-day Hindi workshop was held on June 30 at the Conference Hall of the Principal Accountant General (Audit), Shillong. The workshop was inaugurated by Stephen Hongray, Principal Accountant General (Audit) in the presence of Smita Gopal, Sr. Deputy Accountant General (Administration), Raghvendra Singh (Revenue Sector) and P.R. Ryngkhlem, Establishment Officer. Narendra Singh Rathore, Hindi Officer, Directorate General Assam Rifles & Town Official Language Implementation Committee, Shillong enlightened the participants on how to use the language for their official works.

Abduction
SHILLONG: Merisha M Sangma lodged a complaint that on June 21 around 11.30 am, five unidentified armed miscreants abducted her husband Sohidur Islam (27) and one Soilul Islam (25) from Nengkhram Bazar in East Garo Hills. On June 22, the complainant received a phone call from the abductor demanding Rs. 50 lakh as ransom for their release.
Nongstoin College gets science section
NONGSTOIN: HSPDP president Ardent Basawiamoit inaugurated the science section at Nongstoin College on Friday. Addressing a gathering, Nongstoin MLA D. Jyndiang said the governing body should be lauded for its untiring efforts to improve the college. Speaking on the occasion, Basawiamoit urged the students to work hard and make proper use of the facilities made available to them. Jyndiang donated Rs 4 lakh for development of the science section.

Entrepreneurs’ conclave held at Ampati
Ampati: Chief Minister Mukul Sangma on Friday offered valuable tips to prospective entrepreneurs on various practicable entrepreneurial and business opportunities available in the state. He was addressing the inaugural session of the day-long Chief Minister’s Entrepreneurs’ Conclave on Business & Enterprise Opportunities at Ampati. During the conclave, successful entrepreneurs from across the state shared their remarkable stories of success to motivate the upcoming entrepreneurs. The chief minister stressed the need to create opportunities for livelihood for the young potentials entrepreneurs and give them the required support and informed the gathering that the government is setting up Rural Entrepreneurship and Incubation Centres across the State.

NEHU pro-VC inaugurates Mairang college
MAIRANG: The Pro-Vice Chancellor of the North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Henry Lamin, inaugurated Kharsawphra College at Mairang in West Khasi Hills District on Friday. The college has arts and commerce sections. Lamin stressed on the need for skill development training for better self-employment opportunities. He appreciated the vision of late Kitdor Syiem who built the infrastructure for multicourse utility. The college is under NEHU. The head of the Khasi Department at NEHU, Streamlet Dkhar, said that NEHU has granted affiliation to Khatsawphra College for three years and during this three years the college has to comply with the rules and regulation laid down by NEHU and the University Grants Commission. When the college fulfills all the norms then permanent affiliation will be granted to the college.
