SHILLONG: Governor Banwarilal Purohit said on Saturday the bravery of late Captain Keishing Clifford Nongrum should be highlighted in college textbooks.
Speaking at a function organised by Raj Bhavan to commemorate the 18th death anniversary of Nongrum, Purohit said he would take up the matter with the Education Department to implement the idea.
“The bravery of Captain Keishing Clifford Nongrum will encourage children to stand for the nation, besides inspiring them to fulfil their dreams,” he added.
On the occasion, the governor also launched a film titled “At the feet of Motherland: Life of Captain Clifford Nongrum” and also felicitated his parents.
The series of programmes organised by Raj Bhavan on Saturday started with marathon from Madan Iewrynghep to Basketball Court, JN Sports Complex. This was followed by a blood donation camp and the (Late) Captain Keishing Clifford Nongrum Memorial Day Function.
Purohit distributed prizes for various competitions held in June as part of the death anniversary.
Y. Tsering, Chief Secretary, Colonel (retd) Virendra Singh Bhalotia, Lt. Gen. Satish Dua, Chief of Integrated Defence Staff to Chairman, COSC and Colonel of the J.K Light Infantry Regiment, Defence personnel and senior State Government officials and students were part of the programmes.
