NEW DELHI: The presidential candidates, Ram Nath Kovind and Meira Kumar, will come to the North east to garner support from MPs and MLAs.
Kovind, who has embarked on a nationwide tour, will visit the North East on July 6. The former governor of Bihar is expected to get huge support from the region after BJP strengthened its foothold in Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Nagaland.
In contrast, Kumar is likely to get support only in two Congress-ruled states – Meghalaya and Mizoram. She is likely to reach Meghalaya on July 5 and from there will go to other states.
Kovind’s first stop in the region will be Arunachal Pradesh. He is scheduled to arrive in Itanagar on July 6. After meeting BJP MPs and MLAs there, he will leave for Assam.
His next stop will be Manipur and finally Nagaland. He will visit both Kohima and Dimapur to meet legislators and on the same evening, he will fly back to Delhi.
Kumar’s programme in other states in NE is not yet known.
