SHILLONG: A security meet was held between Ri Bhoi Deputy Commissioner C.P Gotmare and officials of Northeast Frontier Railway at Nongpoh on Wednesday.
Gotmare said over phone that the meeting was to urge NFR to inform the district administration and the police whenever they resume the project work.
The administration considers that the attack on rail workers and equipment last month by KSU activists was unexpected and it was considered as a security lapse.
The NFR had also not informed the district administration and police when the rail work was in progress in Byrnihat.
“We have made it clear that henceforth NFR should inform us about the works they undertake,” Gotmare said.
After the attack, the work on railway has not resumed and the NFR had not made it clear when it will start the work to complete the construction.
The NFR has projected a loss of Rs 75 lakh due to the destruction of its machinery.
The deputy commissioner has also clarified that there was no ‘persecution’ of KSU activists and added that they were arrested based on evidence as per the law of the land. “We do not have anything against KSU and the student’s body should not think that we are after the activists, but many of the activists were arrested since they happened to be involved in the series of attack,” Gotmare said.
