Army commander meets Arunachal CM

GUWAHATI: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Friday held discussions with Major General Ashok Dhingra, the General Officer Commanding (GOC)  of the 56 Infantry Division, on various defence issues related to the frontier state.

The Army Commander called on the chief minister at his office discussed various issues including defence land acquisition in the state and the Khandu assured that all such cases would be taken care of, the office of the chief minister informed on Friday evening.

The army commander informed Khandu about developmental and welfare activities undertaken by the Indian Army in border areas and plans to open schools for border people with support from the local communities.

Welcoming the army’s initiatives, Khandu said his government in cooperation with the Centre was trying its best to compensate people whose lands were taken for the defence establishment.

The Chief Minister welcomed the setting up of a Sainik School in Arunachal and said it would  help bring people closer to the army and the state’s youths would find new career opportunities in the defence forces.  He said  the bordering monastery town of Tawang which is a popular global tourist destination, was  developed because of the Army  and commented that people of Arunachal and the Indian Army shared special bond.
