GUWAHATI: A speeding train mowed down a wild elephant while it was trying to cross a railway track in north Lakhimpur district of Assam on Friday.
A forest official informed that a herd of elephants from the nearby Dulung reserve forest was crossing the railway track at Pathalipam area, when the train hit the jumbo, killing it on the spot. Veterinarians were rushed to the accident site for carrying out post-mortem.
