SHILLONG: The NDA’s nominee for presidential election, Ram Nath Kovind on Friday said that it was the sacred duty of not only the President but every citizen of India to uplift and maintain the supremacy of the Constitution of India.
Speaking to a group of MLAs and the functionaries of BJP and its ally National People’s Party (NPP) at Orchid Lake Resort in here, Kovind said that constitution of India reigns supreme as far as Governance is concerned.
“If elected, I would do justice to each citizen, region and state of the country,” Kovind added
The NDA’s candidate also assured that there would be no discrimination on the basis of caste, community, creed, sex and region if he was elected as the President. “I will do my best to fulfill the aspirations of the people,” he said
On Meghalaya, he said that the state may be small but it did not make any difference to him and it was as equal as bigger states for him.
Praising Meghalaya for its rich culture and abundance of natural resources, he added people of Meghalaya had equal right to participate in the development of new India
The meeting was attended by UDP MLAs including its president, Donkupar Roy, Paul Lyngdoh, Titos Chyne, Jemino Mawthoh and NPP MLAs James Sangma and Nihim Shira. NPP President and Tura MP Conrad Sangma was also present on the occasion.Congress, HSPDP and NCP MLA Sanbor Shullai besides Independent MLAs skipped the meeting. Meghalaya is the fifteenth state which Kovind has visited so far as part of his campaign for the Presidential election.
