SHILLONG: Police are keeping a close watch on the actions of GNLA militants ahead of the Assembly polls scheduled for early next year.
A senior police official said on Saturday that the security forces are trying to prevent any fresh recruitment to the militant outfit and at the same time the Government is encouraging the GNLA cadres to surrender.
According to police, while the anti-insurgency operations continue, the GNLA cadres are welcome to surrender and join the mainstream.On Thursday, a senior cadre of GNLA recruited by its chief Sohan D Shira had surrendered before the police in East Garo Hills.
The surrendered cadre, Mustan R Sangma (22) revealed that new recruits, most of whom are 15-16 year old boys, have been recruited by Sohan and provided with weapons without undergoing training.
