Seat-sharing: UDP may get lion’s share

SHILLONG: The United Democratic Party (UDP) is likely to contest the 2018 polls from more than 20 constituencies in Khasi-Jaintia Hills region and its alliance partner HSPDP may race for 12-13 seats, sources said.
The partners are still in talks for seat-sharing and the list is likely to be announced in August. It is learnt that both the parties are bargaining hard to get maximum seats.
There are 36 constituencies in the Khasi-Jaintia Hills region. The sources also said in Garo Hills, UDP might get to fight around 14-15 seats out of 24 whereas its alliance partner, the Garo National Council, might get around 10-11 seats.
The alliance is also planning to rope in KHNAM for a strong regional force.
The UDP-HSPDP alliance meet will be held next week to finalise seat adjustment between the parties.
