SHILLONG: The Chairperson of Meghalaya State Commission for Women (MSCW), Theilin Phanbuh has regretted that many tribes from the North East are usually looked down upon in some other parts of the country on the basis of their looks.

Addressing reporters here on Monday after her meeting with Tailin Lyngdoh, the Khasi lady who was racially discriminated at Delhi Golf Club recently, Phanbuh said, “Strong action has to be taken to ensure that such act of racial discrimination does not recur.”

She further added that it is a democratic country and the Constitution guaranteed equal treatment to all. In this connection, she also appealed to the various concerned national Commissions to take stern action against Delhi Golf Club.

She informed that the Commission had summoned the secretary of Delhi Golf Club, Rajeev Hora to appear before it on July 14.

Phanbuh sounded optimistic that some action would come out of the petition they gave to the National Commission for Women (NCW), National Commission for Scheduled Tribe (NCST), National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), and to the three MPs.

Meanwhile, Tailin Lyngdoh maintained that what had happened to her should not be repeated. “I felt bad for myself,” she said as she narrated the incident at Delhi Golf Club to reporters.

Nivedita Borthakur, employer of Lyngdoh, asserted that no apology was tendered to Lyngdoh or her by Delhi Golf Club so far.
