SHILLONG:  E.C.B. Bamon, a close associate of late P.A. Sangma, has resigned from the post of vice-president of National People’s Party (NPP) as well as from  the primary membership  of the party.

Bamon, however, said he would continue with his political career and would contest the next Assembly elections in the state. He is likely to join another political party by the end of this month.

Looking up to late P.A. Sangma as his political mentor, Bamon regarded himself as one of the founding members of NPP but has found it not suitable for himself to continue in the party after the death of P.A. Sangma.

“I used to think deeply if my political mentor left it (the party) for good then who am I to remain in the party? I am a nobody too,” he told reporters at a Press conference on Tuesday.

Pointing to the “bleak future” of NPP leader under the leadership of the Sangma brothers, Bamon said, “Present NPP leaders say that NPP has a big dream but they are only day-dreaming. There is a rough weather prevailing within NPP’s rank and file.”

“There is no new ground, no directions or approach especially for the development of the people,” he said.

When asked on the leadership of NPP president, Conrad Sangma, Bamon said that Conrad did not have a clear mindset.
