Woman killed, 6 of a family hurt in accident

SHILLONG: A lady succumbed to her injuries after the auto-rickshaw that she was travelling along with her family plunged down a gorge after a log of wood rolled down a hill collided with the auto at Mawlyndep Ri-Bhoi district at around 2:30 pm.

 

The deceased, Arbina Ryntathiang passed away at Holy Cross Health Centre at Umsaw Khwan, Ri-Bhoi district. Six other occupants of the auto including three children were injured. They belong to Pyndengnongbri village, Mairang.

The injured are Ibaphylla Ryntathiang, Batimila Ryntathiang (30), Shanborlang Ryntathiang (19), Mewanbanshan Ryntathiang (5), Samebanteiskhem Ryntathiang (3) and Ericson Ryntathiang who is 2 years old.

The injured persons told the reporters that it is the negligence of people who cut the trees and piled the logs on a hill. Unfortunately, a log rolled down the hill and collided with the auto pushing it down the gorge.

However, the people who are engage in felling of trees fled from the spot instead of helping the people.

It was the residents of Mawlyndep who rescued the injured and took them to Holy Cross Health Center but due to severe internal bleeding in the head and head injury, Arbina passed away. The others who were injured were taken to the Shillong Civil Hospital. The police have conducted an investigation in the incident.
