Heavy downpour causes flash floods, landslides in Nagaland

 Kohima: Incessant rains across Nagaland has led to flash floods and landslides in several areas of the state, officials today said. Yeveto village under Niuland Sub-Division in Dimapur district has been severely affected by the flood waters of Zubza river, official reports said. Crops and plantations have been destroyed, livestock swept away and many families in the villages have been rendered homeless, the report said adding, a team of Irrigation, Flood Control and Power departments led by Niuland ADC V Lovitoly Sema has visited the spot to take stock of the situation and coordinate relief and rescue work. There has been no reports of any casualty or injuries to anyone, the report said. In Kohima, the Disaster Management Authority (DMA) said the heavy downpour has caused landslides, besides severely damaging over 20 houses in Peraciezie Colony here. There are also reports of landslides affecting the road transport in several parts of the state. The Dimapur-Kohima National Highway-29 has also been badly damaged near Kiruphema village and alternate routes are being arranged for passage of vehicles, the DMA said. (PTI)
