SHILLONG: A licensee of 7th Mile weighbridge has requested the West Jaintia Hills deputy commissioner and other authorities concerned to provide security at the weighbridge and conduct an inquiry into the alleged plot to attack the site.
The licensee, M. Passah, stated in her appeal to the SP and the Commissioner of Transport, besides the DC, that she received threats from unknown persons and received information from reliable sources that there are some criminal elements and vested interests that are plotting to attack the 7th Mile weighbridge targeting the staff, including government officials posted at the bridge. Elaborating on the plot, she alleged that the role of some truckers and other locals is apparent in the matter.
In this connection, she requested immediate security on the weighbridge premises keeping in mind the safety of workers and government officials.
Passah pointed out that 7th Mile weighbridge issues the actual weighment certificate to all good laden trucks making it the highest revenue earning weighbridge of the Transport Department in Jaintia Hills.
“This practice has annoyed most truckers who are forced to comply with the MV Act,” she said.
