SHILLONG: The Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) has decided to intensify their agitations in the coming weeks in protest against the state government’s delay in issuing the appointment letters to the qualified jugalis for Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL).
On the last day of the current phase of protest on Friday, KHNAM youth wing president, Thomas Passah told reporters, “We will wait till Tuesday and we demand that appointment letters should be given to all qualified jugali before August 2. If the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) does not take the matter seriously, we will start an indefinite agitation.”
Slamming the Power Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar, he said, “If he cannot perform his responsibilities as a Power Minister, he should leave the portfolio and instead reach out to his constituency.”
Lambasting the MeECL as ‘immature’, Passah said, “If the MeECL is facing financial constraints, why is there a need to create a post? It is an immature decision on their part.”
The qualified Jugalis had staged a demonstration from Thursday at Additional Secretariat Parking lot to protest the state government’s delay in issuing appointment letters to over 466 qualified jugalis.
The MeECL has scheduled the appointment in three phases with 336 appointments under Phase-I, 233 each for phases II and III. However, the appointment of Jugalis under Phase II and Phase III is still pending.
The youth wing organization of the regional party has taken a legal recourse as well after it filed a writ petition which is underway in the Court.
