SHILLONG: The Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) has asked the Border Security Force (BSF) to take necessary measures to stop smuggling of cattle from India to Bangladesh.
Talking to media persons here on Saturday, Additional Director General, BGB, Md Zahid Hasan asserted that cattle are being smuggled from India to Bangladesh in large numbers.
“Cattle cannot cross the border unless they are being taken. Both Indians and Bangladeshis are involved in smuggling and the cattle are being brought from different parts of India. We have requested BSF not to allow Indian nationals to indulge in this racket,” he said.
The ADG pointed out that cattle smuggling from India is harming the economy of Bangladesh, adding “Bangladesh’s dairy can grow and (we) can take care of ourselves”.
“Other issues can be resolved if cattle smuggling is stopped,” he added.
When asked about the seizure of huge consignment of marijuana from Tripura, which are cultivated in Bangladesh, he said that Bangladesh does not produce any contraband.
“It is in our agenda that huge number of drugs from this part of India and some parts of East India is flooding the Bangladesh border which is destabilising the social balance of the country, especially the youth,” he added.
