SHILLONG: Check gates in the State are still functional and will remain so for some time though the Government has already de-notified the tax points following the implementation of the GST regime.
Speaking on the matter, Taxation Minister Zenith Sangma said the State is waiting for the e-way bill system, which is being developed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC) along with GST-Network
(GSTN).
“Different types of taxes levied by these departments still continue. As far as removal of check gates is concerned it will depend on the e-way bill system to be developed and placed in the GSTN portal,” Sangma said, adding that the preparation will take a couple of months.
He informed that with the introduction of e-way bill system in the GST, check gates will be immediately removed.
