SHILLONG: The Election department in Tura does not have any records of a person with a ‘doubtful citizenship’ who had applied for EPIC in Mahendraganj.
This was revealed in a reply to the RT I query by Muktadur Hussain of Kazipara in Mahendraganj, South West Garo Hills regarding the documents submitted by a person identified as Mostofa Ahmed, son of Kabiruddin Munshi.
Hussain had sought some documents from the office of the Deputy Commissioner (Election), Ampati, South West Garo Hills and the Public Information Officer in his reply revealed that the Election Office has no records sought by the applicant.
The documents which are not in the possession of election office are the photo copies to prove the identity of Ahmed submitted by him at the time of application for the EPIC No. KHVO595520, under H.No. 247, Sl. No. 729, in Mahendraganj Assembly constituency.

RTI reply reveals…
(Contd from P-3) The office also does not have the photo copy of NRC, which deals with Ahmed’s identity, and also that of his father.
Another query was whether an outsider like Mostofa Ahmed can enroll his name under Mahendraganj constituency without proper documents or NRC.
In reply, the Deputy Commissioner (Election), has replied that the citizens of India after proper verification of documents and identity can only enroll in the electoral roll under Article 326 of the Constitution and Registration of Electors Rules 1960 (statutory rules and order).
After getting the reply, the RTI applicant wrote to the Deputy Commissioner, and demanded a proper inquiry into the citizenship of Ahmed.
According to the RTI applicant, Ahmed has already made an import-export licence, a contractor’s licence under the State Government and now he is trying to make an international passport with the same doubtful EPIC.
Later on July 12, a magisterial inquiry was ordered as sought by the applicant.
