SHILLONG: Auditions for Mrs India Galaxy, which is a platform for married Indian women to exhibit their potentials in the fashion arena that also comes with a responsibility to promote social cause, was held on Saturday at The Shillong Club.
Director of Mrs India Galaxy, Ginny Kapoor who is currently in Shillong for the auditions told reporters that married women can participate in the national pageant to prove their caliber in the modeling world and more so to come out of their cocoon of homemaking.
“A lot of women felt that their parents have not given them a chance and life has been unfair to them. After marriage also they face a lot of struggles in terms of family by trying to make up for their home and sacrificing their career and in the process their whole self is neglected,” she said.
She informed that the auditions were held in several other cities – Pune, Surat, Bengaluru, Indore, Kolkata and New Delhi. Shillong is their first city they have chosen for the North East for the auditions.
Commenting on the changing outlook about fashion, Kapoor said, “There was a big difference and things have evolved over the years. There was still an orthodox system in terms of fashion like burqa. But then things have changed in India. We try to blend our culture with modern fashion.”
When conducting auditions across India, she found “there is beauty everywhere and there is uniqueness in their own way and women are beautiful in every part of the country.”
“The only difference is the language and accent they were speaking. But they have the same kind of heart. The women want to pursue their dream and there is not much difference,” she added.
When asked on how she views fashion scenario in Shillong, Kapoor said, “I heard that it is one of the most fashionable places and I expect to see women who understand fashion and wanting to move forward to explore the world and go for the sky.”
Speaking on the qualities that make up for Mrs India Galaxy, she pointed out that women should exude confidence, be grounded, and has a humble heart.
“Of course, beauty is important and how you speak because they will be representing India in International platform. The person should also be well connected with their roots and be able to adapt,” Kapoor said.
Meanwhile, Iris Maju, Mrs India World 2015 and an audition judge, indicated that pageant is an opportunity for married women to pursue their dreams and added that women are more open towards participating in such pageants.
However, she has a word of caution. “Don’t enter any pageant just to be a model or to enter the glamour world. The aim should be for your development as well as contribution to society,” she said.
Being an army man’s wife, she has stayed in different places in India and found Shillong to be a fashionable and trendy place.
“North East is the most fashionable places in India and all the latest trends, you can see here,” she added.
Maju encouraged women to come out and utilize the platform to fulfill their aspirations.
Aldous Mawlong, another judge of the audition and member of Fashion Society Shillong (FSS), expressed delight at being associated with Mrs India Galaxy as it gels with the objective that FSS is trying to promote.
