LS condoles loss of lives in Naxal attack in C’garh, bus accidents in Shimla, U’khand, J&K, floods in NE

New Delhi: The Lok Sabha today condoled the loss of lives in Naxal attack in Chhattisgarh, bus accidents in Shimla, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir and floods in Northeast.
Making a reference to the tragic incidents, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan said as per reports, 25 soldiers of the Central Reserve Police Force were martyred and six others injured in ambush by Naxals in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh on April 24.
She said 44 people are reported to have been killed and several others injured when a bus fell into Tons river in Shimla disrict of Himachal Pradesh on April 19.
The Lok Sabha Speaker said 23 people are reported to have been killed when a bus fell into a gorge in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand on May 23.
She said 16 Amarnath pilgrims are reported to have been killed and several others injured when a bus fell into a gorge in Ramban distrct of Jammu and Kashmir on July 16.
Ms Mahajan said more than 80 people are reported to have been killed and several others injured besides large-scale destruction of property due to heavy floods and landslides caused by heavy rains in some parts of the Northeast states including Assam, Arunachal Pardesh, Manipur and Tripura.
The House also condoled the loss of lives in Sri Lanka and Bangladesh which resulted due to natural calamities.
Making a reference in the House, the Speaker said the flooding and landslides caused by the incessant rainfall brought by the Southwest monsoon on May 25 and 26 in Sri Lanka took the toll of more than 200 lives and caused severe damage to property affecting several lakhs of people.
She said the House was deeply saddened by the loss of more than 150 lives in a series of massive landslides that occurred on June 12 and 13 in Bangladesh.
The House expressed its deep condolences to the people, Parliaments and Governments of Sri Lanka and Bangladesh on the calamities.
The House stood in silence for a short while as a mark of respect to the memory of the departed. (UNI)
