TURA: A criminal who escaped from police custody while on a routine medical examination at Tura civil hospital a week ago has been recaptured from the outskirts of the town late on Wednesday night.
Tura police had earlier arrested Gaga Ch Marak of Lower Hawakhana for alleged cases of theft and burglary in and around the town.
He had escaped from Tura civil hospital by crawling through the ventilator of a toilet on the night of July 15.
Police received a tipoff about Marak on Wednesday night. The fugitive was with two more men in a car on Kherapara-Dalu Road around midnight when police set up a road block outside Dobasipara outpost.
Marak tried to drive through the barricade but instead landed up in jail again.
