SHILLONG: The Khasi Students Union, South West Khasi Hills District unit on Thursday submitted a reminder to Health and Family Welfare Minister, Roshan Warjri demanding restoration of the Wakhaji Primary Health Centre.
The union also lamented the delay in the construction of a sanctioned 100 bedded community health centre at Mawkyrwat.
They also asked the Government to take measures to speed up the process of assigning more staff at Ranikor CHC.
The union also demanded upgradation of Nonghyllam sub centre to the level of a Primary Health Centre.
The KSU criticised the legislator Rowell Lyngdoh representing Mawkyrwat and cabinet minister Martin M Danggo ( Ranikor) for the poor health scenario in South West Khasi hills district.
Speaking to reporters, the KSU leaders from South West Khasi Hills said that the sitting legislators should have addressed the plight of the people longtime back.
During the meeting, the health minister assured the KSU delegation that within this year, the PHC at Wahkaji will be made functional.
Meanwhile, the FKJGP Rajabala circle, West Garo Hills also met the health minister and urged her to initiate steps to set up a Primary Health Centre at Chandakona/Bhajamara area.
FKJGP also submitted a memorandum to the minister which said that though there are two Community Health Centers ( CHCs) at new Bhaitbari, the poor people of Chandakona/Bhajamara and adjacent areas have to face hardships in the absence of a PHC.
Though there are dispensaries, there are no medical doctors in these areas, the FKJGP said.
